What is CD manufacturing?

Bulk CD manufacturing is the process of copying any number of CDs using content read from a master CD. The resulting copies will contain an exact match of the content found on the master CD, and can be used in exactly the same way.

The CD manufacturing Process

There are 2 broad methods of manufacturing CDs in bulk – Replication and Duplication. Duplicated CDs typically refer to volumes of 500 units or below (inclusive of packaging), while CD replication is typically used where over 500 units are required.

Duplicated CDs are typically manufactured using short run CD duplication machines which use traditional laser burning to copy an image of the master CD onto the copies that it manufactures.

However, replicated CDs are moulded onto a blank CD using a stamping process, which effectively ‘copies’ the content of the master CD onto the manufactured copies in one operation.
