DVD sales to rise in Europe

DVD sales will enjoy a bumper fourth quarter in Europe, it has been claimed.

Industry body DEG Europe says that DVD sales should achieve year-on-year growth in the last three months of 2007, as films are released on DVD and HD formats in time for the Christmas season.

Sales volumes will have increased by eight per cent by the end of 2007 and the overall market will increase by 0.6 per cent over the course of the year, DEG Europe estimates, using GfK and OCC/Neilsen tracking figures as its guide.

"It is hugely promising to see such healthy figures for the year so far, and we are confident that 2007 will finish on a high," Yves Caillaud, senior vice president Warner Home Video EMEA, for and on behalf of DEG Europe, commented.

"Looking at the impressive list of box office titles that will be coming to the DVD market this quarter, we are able to make very positive, full year predictions of substantial year-on-year growth."
