Blu ray.com fare well in Folding@Home
Blu ray.com is one of the leading teams in the shared computing project Folding@Home, it has emerged.
The Folding@Home project is being run by Stanford University, which aims to perform computationally intensive simulations of protein folding. It is hoped that the work will further understanding of various diseases, including Alzheimer's.
PlayStation 3 owners can contribute to the project by leaving their consoles running with a Folding@Home client, when they're not playing games or watching DVDs.
"When not using their PS3s to watch Blu ray movies, many forum members run the Folding@Home program preloaded on the machine," a spokesman explained.
"While you don't need a PS3 to contribute (the software works on any Windows, OSX, or Linux system), the awesome computing power of the console has contributed greatly to the team effort."
The team at Blu ray.com have become one of the top 250 teams in the project, completing 16,305 work units, and amassing 4,559,066 points.
