Sunshine to be released as PIP-enabled Blu-ray title

Fox Home Entertainment will release science fiction thriller Sunshine as a PIP-enabled Blu-ray title some time at the beginning of next year, it has been claimed.

High Def Digest says that the studio is hoping to release the flick as a Profile 1.1 Blu-ray title, so that it will include interactive features such as picture in picture (PIP) and audio mixing.

Viewers with compliant machines will therefore be able to enjoy commentary from a sub window and switch between the sound from the sub and main windows. It will, of course, still be compatible with normal Blu-ray disc players. No confirmation on release date or price for the new title has yet been made.

Panasonic recently announced that it was planning to launch a new Blu-ray disc player, which will incorporate First Standard Profile. This will make it the first such player of its kind and will mean that it is compatible with PIP titles.
