Adult film industry backs both formats

The adult movie industry, which proved decisive in the format battle between VHS and Betamax, is supporting both Blu-ray and HD-DVD in the high definition disc battle.

A number of movie houses from the industry, including Pink Visual and Bangbros, had aligned themselves with HD-DVD.

But both Digital Playground and Hustler, who were HD-DVD exclusive, have revealed that that they will release a number of movies in the Blu-ray format, T3 reports.

However, it is thought that the battle for the adult industry will be less decisive than the 1980s video war, with consumers still preferring to access such content through internet downloads.

Meanwhile, in further bad news for Toshiba and HD-DVD, both New Line Entertainment and HBO have followed Warner in releasing discs exclusively in Blu-ray.

It follows the findings of the Blu-ray Disc Association European Committee that revealed that Blu-ray has a 73 per cent share of the continental high-definition format market.
