BBC Video continues with both formats
BBC Video will not follow the lead of Warner Bros., New Line Entertainment and HBO and become Blu-ray exclusive - at least for now.
The broadcaster had been backed to become Blu-ray exclusive but has since confirmed that it will continue to release its DVDs on both formats.
A spokesman for the company revealed that the broadcaster may pick a performed format eventually but at the moment was considering its options.
The representative told TVShowsOnDVD: "We will evaluate the marketplace before committing to one format."
It is thought that the decision is based on the sales of its Planet Earth DVD series, which has sold particularly well on the HD DVD format.
Meanwhile, Blu-ray DVD player owners have discovered that many new format features will not be available on their systems.
The earliest range of Blu-ray players cannot be upgraded and it looks likely that only PlayStation 3 users will benefit from Blu-ray's proposed internet based services.
