Blu-ray DVD manufacturers enjoy sales

Blu-ray is dominating the DVD manufacturing industry in Australia, it has been revealed.

Sales figures in the country have shown that the DVD format will have to continue to produce high volumes of discs as demand for high definition content continues its growth, according to news.com.au

Andy Parsons, spokesperson for the Blu-ray Disc Association revealed that the format was rising in popularity across the nation.

He said: "It took us almost a year after Blu-ray was first launched in June 2006 to deliver a million disc sales, but it took only three months to achieve two million sales and then another three months after that to achieve three million sales."

Meanwhile, European chairman of the Blu-ray disc Association, Frank Simonis, has revealed that the group did not manufacture players with added upgrade facilities because of the need to get the Blu-ray players to the public rapidly.

"We needed to create momentum and get the players on the market," he said.
