Samsung taken to court over faulty Blu-ray player
Samsung is set to be taken to court in a class action concerning the defective manufacturing of one of its Blu-ray players.
The Samsung BDP-1200, which began to be mass manufactured in June 2006, has compatibility issues with a number of discs that have been released since its launch date.
And Bob McGovern, a resident of Connecticut, has decided to bring a claim on behalf of anyone who has suffered due to the "defective design and/or manufacture" of the product.
The BDP-1200 is a Profile 1 player, one of the earlier Samsung Blu-ray models, which means that it may not be compatible with Profile 1.1 discs, such as motion pictures The Day After Tomorrow and The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
In addition, the machine may not have the ability to benefit from an upgrade, meaning the issues could remain unrectified.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has slashed the price of its Blu-ray add-on from £92 to £67.
