LG 'will continue to back HD-DVD'

One manufacturer of HD-DVD compliant media players has announced that it will continue in its production.

LG has confirmed its intention to maintain supply of the players to the consumer market in a statement made to Pocket-lint.

Those in the DVD duplication industry may be interested to read the opinions of a spokesperson for the firm, who said that demand remains for a player which supports both formats of high-definition disc.

The news follows Toshiba's announcement that it is to cease further development and production of its HD-DVD product, leaving the way open for Sony's Blu-Ray to dominate the market.

Daniel Aziz, marketing manager for LG Electronics, told Sky News: "With the recent announcement from Toshiba, Blu-Ray will now be the format that will pave the way for high-definition movies, however this does not rule out HD-DVD immediately as there are still a number of consumers who have chosen HD-DVD and begun to build a HD-DVD collection."

Meanwhile, the DVD duplication market might want to avoid all-out investment in the Blu-Ray market given recent observations in the US News.

The news provider has stated that much competition remains for Sony from a number of sources, including Toshiba's continued development of standard DVD drives that translate traditional DVD information into close to high-definition playback.
