HD-DVD values 'soaring'
HD-DVDs are currently increasing in value as a result of Toshiba announcing the end of production and product development for the line.
According to the Inquirer, consumers are heading in their droves to online auction site eBay to get hold of the discs so that they have something to play on the machines they have already purchased.
Those in the DVD duplication industry should note that Bee Movie was recently auctioned on the site and bidding pushed the price to $400 (£200) as consumers looked to stock up.
It is suggested that such behaviour could indicate that the HD-DVDs may become established as collector's items in the future - although a number of "reasonably priced" discs remain in circulation.
Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal has suggested that the Sony PS3 is set to receive a sales boost due to its inclusion of a Blu-ray drive, which had previously driven up the price and caused delays in production.
