Road safety DVD 'could see national campaign'
A road safety DVD could be used as part of a national campaign designed to highlight the dangers of reckless driving, it has been revealed.
Ministers from the Department for Transport have contacted the York Press newspaper after its Live Now Drive Later film was well received at schools in the local area and was thought to have got the important message across.
The plan to extent the use of the film, which features real-life tales and dramatisations of how joy-riding can kill, could well require the use of DVD duplication technology and is designed to cut the number of deaths on British roads.
It is hoped that the use of the DVD will highlight the "very serious dangers associated with joy riding by young people who are not old enough to have had any lessons in how to drive legally," road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick explained.
The Highways Agency has released its own DVD entitled Great Roads, Great Rides, which aims to help motorcyclists learn some basic tips on how to stay safe while riding in the UK.
